Marketing Manager: Phonofile (Norway)
Trond Tornes started out as a drummer, keyboard player, song writer and producer. From Oslo and the rest of the Nordics, he spent time in bands, some self releasing, some signed to bigger indies, and one signed with Polygram (now Universal). After artist years he moved on to the music industry doing tour managing, international booking and promoting, before joining early tech startups in Norway, and after this going back to artist management (Nils Petter Molvaer and more). Eventually he joined his dots in the field of technology & music with early digital music aggregation was part of defining what later became the field of digital distribution and marketing.
Now working with growing Phonofile, most recently opening a London office in 2015, a New York office in 2016 and working from LA during 2017. Trond has been travelling to Africa for more than ten years and been following the South African scene since Kwaito and Kwaito house started out, and is advocating for Gqom and African hip hop and electronic music in general.
Phonofile is the biggest indie digital distributor in the Nordics, with offices in Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Gothenburg, London and New York. Its sister company Finetunes has offices in Hamburg, Berlin, Paris, Glasgow, plus people working from Denver and Encinitas. Phonofile is in the process of being part of The Orchard a 20 year old independent distributor now acquired by Sony Music.
